Effects of Problem Based Learning Using Mind Map on Nursing Process of Nursing Students

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Problem Based Learning(PBL) using mind map according to learning attitudes, critical thinking disposition and self-directed learning capability of nursing students learning the Nursing process.

Methods: The research was a one-group, pre-and-posttest design. The participants in the study were 227 nursing students enrolled in 2nd year of a BSN program in A city, Korea. The data were collected on March 10 and June 5, 2016, using a structured questionnaire.

Results: After the course, there was a significant increase in learning attitudes (t=-3.709, p<.001), critical thinking disposition (t=-4.877, p<.001), and self-directed learning capability (t=-3.742, p<.001). There was a significant positive correlation.

Conclusion: The findings of this study show that PBL can be used for improvement the learning attitudes, critical thinking disposition and self-directed learning capability. PBL could be an adjunct educational strategy for undergraduate nursing education.
